Watch Shelter Me at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26 on Wisconsin Public Television.
I have to say, my least favorite ads on television have always been the ones for animal shelters and the humane society. Don’t get me wrong, I love animals and am sickened by people who abuse or abandon them. However, when I’m sitting around watching TV or a movie and just want to relax, the last thing I want to see some drawn out tearjerker PSA full of abused animals.
Does it work? Yes, absolutely. A large portion of the viewing audience can’t help but feel bad and either donate or rush of to a local shelter and adopt a new furry friend… My mom has the calendars, fleece throws and beagles to prove it.
That being said, there are animals out there that do need help. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help and what others are already doing, you should definitely tune in for a great program.
