Sadly, “The Luxury of Conscience” is already the second-to-last episode of the season. Time flies when you’re watching Victoria!
In this episode, we saw Victoria and Albert face their worst nightmare as parents. Plus, Peel took on the ultimate battle in Parliament, and we unexpectedly said goodbye to some of our favorite characters. (Again.)

Gorgeous scenery, lively dances, bagpipes … This episode was a virtual vacation. And let’s not forget the romance! We’re talking upwards of three romantic subplots.

OK, Daisy Goodwin. I’m wise to your technique, now. You sandwich low-drama episodes in between the dramatic ones to give us a little respite. And we appreciate it.
But this week was pretty intense. Potato famine! A brooding Ernest! Tension downstairs! But mostly potato famine. Heartbreaking… but necessary. And Victoria – both the show, and the Queen – handled it with grace.

I have always recommended Victoria on Masterpiece, but the first part of this episode had me seriously reconsidering if that recommendation would cast a dark cloud over viewers’ Sunday evenings. “Emotionally devastating” is the only way I can describe “Warp and Weft.” Luckily, part 2, “The Sins of the Father,” swooped in to pick us up of the floor.
As always, if you have some catching up to do, you can watch past episodes of Victoria on-demand on our website by clicking here. If you’re caught up and ready to recap episode 2, your weekly dose of Victoria gossip can be found below.
But we’re here to talk about Season 2! In the premiere (streaming online now), we reunite with new mother Victoria – who’s impatient to return to ruling. Meanwhile, Albert attempts to protect her from news about British soldiers in Afghanistan, and some familiar faces and brand-new characters grace the screen. If you’re not ready to read about all of that quite yet, here’s your spoiler alert! Read on for a recap of the season premiere …
Well, folks: It’s the end of an era. The glorious reign of Victoria on Masterpiece is over … for now.
Our Sunday evenings will no longer include these lovable new pals – from Queen Victoria to Prince Ernest. Over the course of the season, even the characters we initially cursed under our breath warmed our hearts eventually (I’m looking at you, uncle Leopold!).

What’s more relaxing than enjoying a private concert with your closest companions and frenemies? Well, probably a lot of things, considering how uncomfortable those chairs looked. But that’s not Victoria’s world.
“The Engine of Change” follows Victoria through her early, nausea-filled stages of her pregnancy, explores Albert’s continued quest for independence, and generally showcases that the times are a-changin’ – and if the royals are going to keep up, they’re going to have to change, too. Whew – what an episode! Notably, this was the first episode without Melbourne. (Why have you forsaken us, Lord M?!) But the storyline was solid, and I made it through the episode without too much heartache.
